A freind asked me to create some painted surfboard cutouts for the school festival and I went nuts. I made them out of cardboard, wood. I made a lot and from there I didn’t stop creating art for several years.
at one point I quit making paintings and decided to be a professional photographer. Photography was great but it didn’t feed my soul.
for a while I thought that art would just be a distant memory, but after a bout with cancer, I started sketching again.
No expectations, just sketch-something simple, in a small 3.5×5 sketchbook, once a day minimum.
I did this for a year before I realized that I had slowly trained myself to think like an artist again.
I started taking a chance with paint and canvas, began exploring oil pastels on paper, and today I’ve made so much original art that I’m running out of space in my studio!
what used to be art inspired by mad, wild energy is now tempered by focus-yet I still find my self drawn to the letting go part of art.
For me that’s the most important aspect of art. Not parroting the human form or nature, but exploring how else our world can be translated through the lens of my mind.
currently i’m exploring incorporating that unrestrained energy that surrounds us all with more figurative expressions.
My inspiration always comes from nature and especially the ocean.
